With over 30 years of experience teaching karate in the Lowcountry, Japan Karate Institute is the premier martial arts school in the Charleston area.

Centered around the purpose of "Not to Conquer Others, But to Conquer the Weakness Within Oneself", our classes are designed to help young and old build their self-confidence, awareness, discipline, self-control, fitness and flexibility in an enjoyable and dynamic class setting.

Our style of traditional Okinawa/Japanese Karate is called Wado Ryu, which means "Way of Peace". This style is not only beautiful to perform, but also highly effective in real life self-defense situations.

The Little Ninjas Program is designed for the younger members of your family, ages 3 to 5. Through karate-based dynamic activities, a typical Little Ninjas class helps your child build eight key life skills: Coordination, Control, Discipline, Focus, Teamwork, Balance, Memory and Teamwork.

The Family Karate class is for youths, teenagers and adults. As mentioned above, our classes are not just about kicking and punching, but about developing the internal attributes that allow us to be better versions of ourselves.
